Peter was born and raised in San José. He graduated from Willow Glen Elementary, Hoover Middle School, and Bellarmine College Preparatory and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in screenwriting from the University of Southern California.
For the past two years, Peter served as Public Information Officer for San José Unified School District, where he coordinated external and internal communications for the largest and most innovative school district in Silicon Valley and facilitated the engagement of 30,000 students and families, 3,000 employees, and 41 schools. He's excited by the opportunity to bring his passion for education to the Board of Trustees.
Prior to arriving at San José Unified, Peter served as Managing Director of Teatro Visión, a Chicanx-Latinx theater company nurturing arts and opportunity in underserved San José communities. He also owned and operated a small consulting practice specializing in online marketing and political campaigns.
Peter served for four years on the City of San José Arts Commission and currently serves as Vice Chair of the San José Planning Commission. He is about to be Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Campbell-San José West and was a founding board member of the Silicon Valley chapter of the New Leaders Council.
Peter's family has deep roots in our community going back nearly a century, when his great grandfather co-founded Contadina Canneries. His grandfather, Pete, owned Allen's Furniture, and his family operated Paolo's Restaurant, both longtime fixtures in Downtown San José. His mother, Janice, taught second grade at Willow Glen Elementary for almost 20 years, and his late father, Jack, was a local CPA serving more than 400 individual, business, and family clients.
From a young age, Peter was taught the values of hard work, sacrifice, and compassion that still mark every endeavor he undertakes. Watching his mother give everything she had, day in and day out, for her students inspired him to give back to his community at every opportunity. In many ways, his life is defined by Bellarmine's motto of "Men for Others", Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self", and San José Unified's motto of "Be Curious".
Peter's wife, Angelica Ramos, is a public policy specialist, strategic consultant, and President of the National Women’s Political Caucus of Silicon Valley. They live with their rescue dog, Josie, across the street from Lincoln High School.
