Changes

I hope you're enjoying a wonderful summer. I've been busy recovering from the primary election and looking ahead to new opportunities. I knew this campaign would be a pivot point in my life — one way or another — and I wanted to let you know about some exciting developments over the past few weeks...

First, as you may have heard, I've accepted an offer to become the new Public Information Officer (PIO) for San José Unified School District. In many ways, this is an ideal fit for myself as well as the district. As a product of SJUSD schools and the son of a former San José Unified teacher, I know all too well the challenges faced by our public education system, and I'm thrilled to be able to play a role in engaging our community around district programs and initiatives. I don't officially start until Monday, but feel free to share any thoughts, ideas, and suggestions in the meantime.

I'm also proud to announce that I'll be serving as President-Elect of my Rotary club for the 2016-2017 year. I've spent countless hours over the past four years working with fellow Rotarians to improve the quality of life in our community through service projects like backpack drives, park clean-ups, and youth leadership conferences. Now, I'm taking the next step in my service by stepping into a leadership role. As President-Elect, I'll also be gearing up to serve as Club President in 2017-2018. I'm hoping to bring new energy and a youthful spirit to this amazing organization. Let me know if you'd like to get involved!

Finally, many of you have asked who I'll be supporting in the November runoff for the District 6 council seat. While I respect and admire both candidates, in the end, it was a clear choice: Helen Chapman has unmatched experience as a leader for our neighborhoods. She will invest in the arts and celebrate the beautiful diversity of our community, and she's the only candidate who supports policies that will help the city recruit and retain more police and fire fighters and repair our crumbling roads and infrastructure. I'm happy to endorse Helen, and I hope you'll join me in supporting her.

There will be more updates to come. Please don't hesitate to contact me anytime!
